DANIELSVILLE, Pa. --- The Alvernia University golf team posted a team score of 307 to win the annual Moravian College Fall Invitational at the Woodstone Country Club Thursday, and Casey Osbourne from Alvernia won medalist honors with a one-under par round of 71.
Osbourne would break a tie with Steve Kluemper from Centenary College with a lower back-nine score in a comparison of scorecards. Muhlenberg College finished second of the 14 teams with a score of 311.
The host Greyhounds were tied for seventh with a 334 in their first tournament of the 2012-13 season. Freshman Evan Dickinson led Moravian individually with a round of 81 that was tied for 19th of the 75 golfers in the competition. Senior Tyler Thompson, who is also Moravian's starting punter and place kicker, was tied for 22nd with a round of 82 while freshman James Lobb was tied for 36th with an 85. Senior Aaron Thieme was tied for 41st with an 86 to open the year while freshman Jim Maru rounded out Moravian's top five with a 90, which was tied for 52nd.
Moravian had three players compete as individuals in the tournament with sophomore Scott Nevenglosky taking 63rd with a 93, junior Eric Schultz finishing in a tie for 66th with a 96, and freshman Brian Hall in 74th with a 102.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, September 15th and 16th in the opening two rounds of the 2012-13 Empire 8 Conference Championships to be played at the Yahnundasis Country Club in New Hartford, New York.
