BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer squad posted a 2-1 victory over visiting Goucher College in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon on John Makuvek Field to close out the regular season.
The Hounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when sophomore midfielder Anthony Nagy scored his team-leading tenth goal of the season off of assists from sophomore midfielders Quinn Middleton and Safa Turkdonmez. Nagy is the first Greyhound to reach double-digits in goals in a season since Jeff Algor netted 13 goals in 2013.
The lead would last just ten minutes before Goucher scored the equalizer.
The Blue and Grey moved back in front nine minutes later in the 36th minute as freshman midfielder Ryan Cole netted his second goal of the year as he drilled a rebound from a shot by sophomore midfielder Mike D'Angelo into the net. Neither team would score in the five 54 minutes of action.
Junior goalie Michael Bone made six saves and had another shot cleared by his defense in the victory.
"I'm glad to get a win against a tough Goucher team," stated Head Coach Bob Wilkinson. "Goucher really challenged us late in the game but we battled to preserve the victory. It was great to see the seniors win their final game of their career at Makuvek Field. Thanks to Akinori Mollenthiel, Jon Matthews, Kenny Fellows and Yamil Yunez for all they have done for the program. We look forward to our postseason game against Catholic on Tuesday. It will be a great challenge."
Moravian will return to action on Tuesday, November 5 when the squad heads to No. 21 and top seed The Catholic University of America for a Landmark Conference Semifinal match beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
