McMullan Reaches 100 Career Points as Greyhounds Race Past DeSales

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team posted a 22-11 non-conference victory over visiting DeSales University Wednesday evening on John Makuvek Field on the strength of a 16-goal first half including seven by sophomore midfielder Meaghan McMullan.

The Greyhounds, who are now 6-2 on the season, had six goal scorers with McMullan adding an assist to her seven goals to become the eighth player in school history to reach 100 career points, and she also contributed five draw controls and three caused turnovers in the win. Junior attack Liz Bill netted six goals to move into second in school history with 186 points, an she had seven draw controls in the match while senior attack Jillian Picciuto had three goals, an assist and six draw controls.

Freshman midfielder Lindsey Strohl netted three goals to go with seven draw controls, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while sophomore attack Danielle Sullivan had two goals and two assists while senior attack Dalia Aguilar netted one goal.

Senior goalie Kelley Gavin played the first half for the Blue and Grey with one save while sophomore goalie Courtney Heist recorded five saves in the second half. Senior defender Melissa Webber added four ground balls while sophomore defender Olivia Clearie scooped up three ground balls.

The Greyhounds tied a school record with 25 draw controls in the match, holding a 25-10 edge in draws, and the Blue and Grey also wnet 15-for-18 on clears out of the defensive end.

Picciuto and Bill both scored off of eight-meter shots in the first four and a half minutes of action as Moravian had an early 2-0 lead. After the Bulldogs scored, McMullan netted two goals and Bill scored again as the Blue and Grey pushed the edge to 5-1. DeSales tallied three of the next four goals to cut the Greyhounds' lead to 6-4 with 16:27 left in the first half. McMullan scored 21 seconds later to start a 5-0 run by Moravian over the next four minutes, and the Hounds netted a total of 10 of the final 12 goals of the half to head to the intermission with a 16-6 lead.

The Bulldogs scored three of the first four goals in the second half before a 4-0 run from Moravian including two goals by Sullivan pushed the edge to 21-9 with 11 minutes remaining.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 30 when the squad welcomes No. 10 The Catholic University of America in a Landmark Conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
