Why did you choose Moravian College?
I chose Moravian College mainly because I knew Moravian would allow me to pursue many academic opportunities while still participating in athletics. Moravian is a small liberal arts college and for me, earning a degree in a field of science while studying liberal arts is valuable when looking for jobs because you’ll be seen by employers as a well-rounded candidate.
What is your major and why?
My major is Environmental Science. I chose this major because I’ve loved earth science ever since I was young and I’m very passionate about protecting man’s natural resources. I want to raise a family in a world where people still have access to clean air, water, and protected land.
What has been your favorite course at Moravian and why?
I haven’t had the chance to take many courses at Moravian yet however, my favorite course so far has been Botany with Dr. Bevington. I’ve met a lot of different friends through this class and I enjoyed all the knowledge that Dr. Bevington had to share about the topic.
What are your plans for the future once you finish your degree at Moravian?
My plans after Moravian include finding a full-time job working with either a consulting company that strives to advocate for sustainable energies or a non-profit organization that works to protect the lands and waterways of the tri-state area.
What is your most memorable moment as a Greyhound?
The most memorable moment I have of being a Greyhound so far is running at the 2016 Cross Country Regional meet at DeSales University. That race was particularly tough because of the terrain and also for how competitive it was, however when I saw my time on the clock as I finished I was surprised at how fast I ran. When I heard that I finished 23rd in the Mid-East Region, I realized that anything is possible for me to achieve as a Greyhound.
How has being an athlete helped you as a student?
Running is something that keeps my body healthy and allows for me to relieve stress and emotional buildup. Without running as a stress reliever, I wouldn’t be able to handle studying and preparing for exams as well. Competing in the NCAA, not just being a recreational runner, gets me to set super high goals for myself and striving for these athletic goals keeps me sharp and proactive in setting and achieving my academic goals as well.
What is the hardest part of your sport?
The hardest part of my sport is not the physical training, but the mental training. It’s something special to be a runner who is physically fit and talented, but it’s another to be mentally motivated to train faster and farther than you ever have before. You have to be mentally tough to block out the pain that comes with racing and just go out and run your fastest.
Name one obstacle or form of adversity you have had to overcome.
I tend to have a lot of muscle inflammation and injuries in my calves and so multiple times I’ve had to back off on my training to protect my calves from further injury. The athletic trainers are always willing to help and have really helped to rehab my calves.
Why is community service important to your role as a student-athlete at Moravian?
Community service is important to participate in as a student-athlete because it’s important to give back to the community, a community that is always there to support the college and its athletics. The youths in our community look up to us student-athletes as role models and so it’s our responsibility to be leaders and show compassion for our community.
What advice do you have for a prospective Moravian College student-athlete?
If you’re thinking of coming to Moravian as a student-athlete, come because you love to play your sport and aren’t afraid to challenge yourself physically and academically. Every athlete here is passionate about their sport and as long as you have that same passion, you’ll be able to reach every goal you set for yourself.
