Why did you choose Moravian College?
I really wanted to go to a school where I would be happy on and off
the soccer field. I was excited to learn that Moravian had a strong
education program because that was my intended major. However, the
aspect of the school that really sold me was the strong soccer
program, and welcoming staff and teammates.
What is your major and why?
My major is elementary education and mathematics because I have
always loved working with children. The fact that Moravian gets you
into the classroom so early and often also drew me into the
education program.
What has been your favorite course at Moravian and
why?
My favorite course at Moravian has been Educational Psychology
because I learned about the different factors that influence
elementary and secondary students. After taking that course, I was
able to help my students more because I understood the reasons
behind their behaviors and learning styles. I also enjoyed the
interactive format of the class and liked how the course was taught
a lot differently than any other education course I've taken
here.
What are your plans for the future once you finish your
degree at Moravian?
After graduation from Moravian, I plan to get a teaching job in an
elementary school. Ideally, I would also like to become a soccer
and basketball coach, whether it is at the high school or youth
level.
What is your most memorable moment as a
Greyhound?
My most memorable moment was my freshman year when we made it into
the ECAC tournament. It was a really exciting time and as a
freshman, I was so thankful to be a part of a successful team.
How has being an athlete helped you as a student and in
the classroom?
Being an athlete has definitely helped me in terms of time
management with my school work. Knowing that I have practice or a
game each day, I plan time to get my work done in advance. I find
that I actually do better in my classes during the season than
during the off-season.
What is the hardest part of your sport?
The hardest part about soccer is maintaining your skill and fitness
level. Soccer is really hard to get back into if you have been away
from the game for an extended period of time. That is why I try to
maintain a high fitness level and play as much soccer as possible
throughout the off-season. Even just getting small touches on the
ball a couple of days a week will help you keep your touch and
better your overall game.
Why do you wear your jersey number?
I actually switched my number to 13 this year, but I wore number 3
the previous two years. I have always worn a number with a 3 in it
ever since I was little, and I want to continue that through my
collegiate career.
What advice do you have for a prospective Moravian
College student-athlete?
My advice would be to challenge yourself on and off the field in
any way possible. If you have any reservations about playing a
sport here, at least give it a chance first. I can honestly say
that the practices, games, bus rides, friendships, and fun times
that I have experienced here are things that I would not trade for
anything else. Playing a sport here will just make your college
experience so much more rewarding and meaningful because you will
be an active part of the Moravian community.
