BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The second seeded University of Scranton softball team posted a 7-2 win over third seed Susquehanna University in the final elimination game of the 2018 Landmark Conference Tournament being played at Moravian College’s Blue & Grey Field Saturday as the Royals advanced to the championship round.
Scranton, who is now 33-10 on the season, had eight hits with sophomore first baseman Anna Price and freshman shortstop Maggie Donnelly each going 2-for-3. Susquehanna had nine hits with senior third baseman Emilie Boman posting a 2-for-3 game and senior second baseman Heather Pearson going 2-for-4.
Royals’ freshman Jennifer Sweeney tossed a complete game with six strikeouts for her 18th win of the season.
The River Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Boman and an RBI double from sophomore center fielder Kasey Bost.
Scranton answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to move ahead 3-2. Price had an RBI double while the other two runs scored on an error on a ground sophomore third baseman Casey DeSarno.
The Royals added four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to push their advantage to 7-2. Price drove in the first run with an RBI single while DeSarno had an RBI single as well. Donnelly drove in the final two runs with a single through the left side.
Scranton would be back on the field at 3:00 p.m. to take on top seed and host Moravian in the championship round.
