Volleyball Sweeps Gwynedd Mercy for 10th Win
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women’s volleyball team picked up its 10th win of the 2015 season Wednesday evening as the Greyhounds swept Gwynedd Mercy University, 25-11, 25-16, 25-15 in a non-conference match in Johnston Hall.

The Hounds jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set behind the serving of sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher. Junior middle hitter Taylor Kornmann added a string of six consecutive points on the serve later in the set as Moravian earned the 25-11 set win to start the evening.
Zacher again served four straight points for the Blue and Grey early in the second set for a 6-2 advantage, and she would finish the evening with four kills, a team-high 14 digs and a pair of service aces.
The third set would see sophomore defensive specialist Ashton Galasso serve up five straight points to help build a 7-1 lead, and Kormann headed behind the service line with the Hounds up 11-6 and pushed through four points to help take control of the final set.
Moravian used 10 players in uniform for the match, spreading the statistics around for the evening. Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Jaqcues had a team-high eight kills to go with three digs while junior opposite hitter Jaclyn Smith added six kills. Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Kruscavage contributed five kills, five digs and three assists while Kornmann had four kills and three digs for the Greyhounds.
Galasso made three service aces and added seven digs in the victory while senior setter Megan Szkolnicki had 16 assists and three digs. Freshman setter Rebecca Purcell added 11 assists, 10 digs and two kills for the Hounds while freshman outside hitter Rachel Farmer contributed three kills and six digs. Senior libero Andrea Giardina added seven digs.
"It was fun to be able to give some of the players more court time tonight, and we did a good job staying focused and minimizing our errors," commented Head Coach Shelley Bauder.
The Greyhounds are schedule to head to the Boston area this weekend for the Endicott College Tournament in Beverly, Massachusetts. The Hounds will take on Babson (Mass.) College on Friday, October 9 at 6:00 p.m. before playing host Endicott and Colby-Sawyer (N.H.) College on Saturday, October 10 at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
