TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has recognized 365 student-athletes including 33 from Moravian College by selecting them for the 2017 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions.
The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all fall student-athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the fall season in good standing with their team. The Fall Academic Honor Roll begins the academic award season for the conference with the Senior Scholar-Athlete for the fall sports to be named later this month.
Moravian had student-athletes from all six of its fall teams that compete in the conference with the women’s cross country program leading the way with seven honorees. The men’s cross country, field hockey, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball teams each having six selections while the men’s soccer squad had two student-athletes honored.
The women’s cross country squad finished third at the 2017 Landmark Conference Championships and placed senior Kirsten Lebo, junior Alyssa Limbaugh and sophomores Carly Danoski, Marlee Hornbaker, Katie Mayer, Shayne McNally and Rachel Mikols on the Academic Honor Roll. It was the third selection for Lebo while Limbaugh is a repeat honoree from 2016. Mayer ran to a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team while Danoski was selected to the 2017 Landmark Conference Fall All-Sportsmanship squad.
The men’s cross country team was also third at the Landmark Conference meet and had one senior Josh Toth, one junior Aaron Hofmann and four sophomores Devon Fogel, Gregory Jaindl, Gavin Kemery and Alex Tursi each being honored. Hofmann earned a spot on the Academic Honor Roll for the second straight fall. Jaindl was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team while Kemery was on the All-Conference Second Team.
The field hockey squad placed senior Katie Morrison, junior Emily Duddy and sophomores Devyn Lapp, Ashley Magee, Olivia Schlofer and Hayley Wrazien on the Academic Honor Roll. Morrison also made the list as a sophomore while Duddy was named to the 2017 Landmark Conference Fall All-Sportsmanship team.
The women’s soccer team posted a 9-6-1 record this season and allowed just six goals all season. The Greyhounds placed three seniors Lauren Bertucci, Jessica Lawton and Maria Manz, juniors Shae Duka and Paige Kovacs and sophomore Paige Weiss on the Academic Honor Roll. Bertucci was honored as the 2017 Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the Landmark All-Conference First Team while Duka and Weiss each made the All-Conference Second Team. Manz was named to the 2017 Landmark Conference Fall All-Sportsmanship squad while Lawton and Bertucci made the Academic Honor Roll for the third straight fall and Manz, Duka and Kovacs were honored for the second consecutive fall.
The women’s volleyball team was 18-15 this year and played in the Landmark Conference Semifinals. The squad had seniors Jean Markovic and Mary Zacher, junior Erin Tiger and sophomores Victoria Kauffman, Alexis Szaro and Haile Yoder named to the Academic Honor Roll. Markovic was named the Landmark Conference Specialist of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team as she was selected to the Academic Honor Roll for the fifth time after joining the list twice with Moravian’s softball team. Zacher was also honored on the All-Conference First Team, and she and Tiger are making their second straight appearance on the Academic Honor Roll.
The men’s soccer squad finished 2017 with an 8-5-4 record and had senior Corey Klaskin and junior Michael Guarino named to the Academic Honor Roll. Klaskin is making the squad for the third straight fall while Guarino received the honor for a second consecutive fall.
