Freshman pitcher Jonathan Harasin tossed a six-hit shutout, and the Moravian College baseball team scored six runs in the first two innings to post a 6-0 win at Susquehanna University Sunday afternoon to close out a Landmark Conference series.
Harasin improved to 2-1 on the year after allowing six hits and striking out three batters in the first complete game of his collegiate career.
Moravian gave Harasin all of the offense he needed before he even made it to the mound. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning when senior outfielder Jason Huber reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an RBI ground out by junior catcher Austin Rock.
The Greyhounds added five runs in the top of the second for the 6-0 lead. Senior third baseman Jon Baltz was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and he would score on a Susquehanna error. Junior first baseman Kevin O'Keefe hit a two-RBI single to score freshman outfielder Joseph Connell, who had singled, and junior shortstop Dave Zubia, pictured at right, who was also hit by a pitch. Senior outfielder Mike Zubia followed with a two-RBI double scoring O'Keefe and Huber, who had reached on the error that allowed Baltz to score.
Moravian had a 10-6 edge in hits in the game with Connell going three-for-four and Dave Zubia going two-for-three. O'Keefe and Mike Zubia were both one-for-four with two RBIs. Outfielder Ethan Rieker was two-for-four for the Crusaders.
Susquehanna used five pitchers in the game with Matt Lottes suffering the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings of action.
