Smith Selected to Empire 8 Conference Spring President's List
ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- Moravian College freshman golfer Tyler Smith has been selected to the Empire 8 Athletic Conference 2015 Spring President's List as the Empire 8 honored nearly 800 student-athletes for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- Moravian College freshman golfer Tyler Smith has been selected to the Empire 8 Athletic Conference 2015 Spring President's List as the Empire 8 honored nearly 800 student-athletes for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom.
Smith competed in all eight of Moravian's rounds during the spring portion of the season and 15 of 16 rounds for the year. He was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team after finishing tied for 10th with a 72-hole total of 316 as the top freshman in the tournament. Smith averaged 80.87 strokes per round with a season low of 76 in the second round of the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational in April.
In the classroom, Smith is majoring in business management with a minor in finance at Moravian. Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher during the semester while participating in a conference-sponsored sport.
In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."
The Empire 8 recognized a record total of 796 student-athletes from its sponsored sports with the President's List distinction. The previous high was 751 set last spring.
Additionally, a record number 111 teams were acknowledged as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the spring semester.

The nine full-time conference members sponsored a total of 4,615 student-athletes who combined for a Empire 8 wide spring semester grade point average of 3.172, also a new high for the conference.
