CHESTER, Pa. --- Senior Gary Zack broke the school record in the javelin while senior Timothy Layng won the pole vault to lead the Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team at the non-scoring Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University Friday and Saturday.
In addition to Zack and Layng, the Greyhounds had a total of seven top-ten finishes and a trio of ECAC qualifiers in the meet. Zack passed the school record he set to capture the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship in the event by 13 inches with an ECAC qualifying toss of 67.69 meters (222 feet, one inch). The throw was 15 inches better than his previous throw this season to strengthen Zack's hold on the top spot on the 2012 Track & Field Results Reporting System list to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Those ranked in the top 20 for individuals and top 16 for relays at the end of the season will compete at the national meet.
Layng won the pole vault at an ECAC qualifying height of 4.65 meters (15 feet, three inches), a height that would put him 9th on the TFRRS list; however, Layng already owns the top spot at 4.91 meters last week at the University of Virginia Team Swashbuckle. Senior Nicco Dalpiaz placed fourth in the pole vault at 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3 1/4 inches), and Dalpiaz was also fourth in the long jump at 6.33 meters (20 feet, 9 1/4 inches).
In the triple jump, junior Travis King finished second with an ECAC qualifying leap of 13.62 meters (44 feet, 8 1/4 inches), which moves him into a tie for 20th on the TFRRS list, while sophomore Kristopher Joint placed fourth with a distance of 13.26 meters (43 feet, six inches).
On the track, junior Evan Lick finished tenth in a time of 59.24 seconds.
