Moravian Falters in Second Half at Susquehanna
SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s basketball team led by as many as seven points in the third quarter before falling to host Susquehanna University, 76-63, in Landmark Conference action on the road Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The River Hawks netted the first bucket of the game before junior guard Juliana Vassallo connected on a lay-up for the Hounds. Susquehanna scored the next seven points to lead 9-2, and the River Hawks were up 11-4 with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. Vassallo sank a three-pointer and freshman guard Ellie Wallbillich had a jumper to get the Blue & Grey within two points at 11-9 while a lay-up by freshman guard Sofia Squizziato knotted the contest at 13-13. Sophomore guard Emma Altmire drained a three-pointer in the final seconds of the quarter to give the Greyhounds a 16-13 advantage after ten minutes of action
- The second quarter started with Susquehanna scoring first and the River Hawks eventually taking a 20-18 edge. Moravian countered with an 8-0 run to build a 26-20 lead with 3:21 until the intermission on another lay-up by Vassallo. Freshman guard Emma Pukszyn sank two free throws for a 28-23 edge, and the Hounds took a 28-26 lead to the locker room at the intermission
- Susquehanna came out to retake the lead, 32-31, early in the third quarter; however, a lay-up from junior guard Jayda Cartagena and a three-point play and a jumper by sophomore forward Lanie Herbert had the Blue & Grey back on top at 38-32. Vassallo drained three-pointer to make it 41-34 with 5:41 left in the third period. The River Hawks finished the quarter with a 16-4 run to lead 50-45 at 30 minutes of play
- Graduate student forward Sam Osorio opened the final period with a jumper and Vassallo connected on a three-pointer to knot the game at 50-50. Osorio tied the contest for the eighth time at 52-52 with a lay-up; however, the Hounds were unable to retake the lead as Susquehanna slowly pulled away throughout the rest of the quarter
Inside the Numbers
- Vassallo netted a career high 24 points while shooting 10-for-19 from the field and 4-for-7 beyond the three-point line, and she added three rebounds
- Herbert finished with 12 points and nine boards while Osorio and Wallbillich both had eight points with Osorio adding four boards and Wallbillich contributing five rebounds and a pair of assists
- Altmire registered five points while Pukszyn had a career-high ten rebounds to go with two points
- Cartagena posted six rebounds, four assists and two points while Squizziato had two points and senior guard Mikayla Anderson dished out four assists
- The Hounds shot 24-for-67 from the field, 6-for-15 on three-pointers and 9-for-19 at the foul line in the contest
