Greyhounds Hold Off Goucher as Osorio Nets 1,000th Point

How It Happened
- The Gophers scored first while sophomore forward Lanie Herbert knotted the score at 2-2. Goucher moved ahead by eight points, 12-4, before freshman guard Emma Pukszyn sank a jumper to start an 8-0 that saw the Blue & Grey tie the game again at 12-12 on a pair of free throws by freshman guard Ellie Wallbillich. The Gophers pulled back in front and led 22-20 after ten minutes of action
- Junior guard Juliana Vassallo hit a pair of lay-ups to begin the second quarter as the Greyhounds took their first lead at 24-22. Moravian pushed the edge to 31-25 on a Wallbillich free throw with just over six minutes left in the period, and the Greyhounds maintained the lead throughout the rest of the half to take a 45-41 edge to the locker room
- The Hounds scored the first eight points of the second half with a lay-up from Herbert pushing the lead to 12 points at 53-41 at the 8:10 mark. The Gophers closed the gap to four points twice before Wallbillich hit a lay-up to give the Blue & Grey a 67-60 advantage after 30 minutes of play
- Goucher netted the first basket of the fourth quarter, and it was a four-point contest when graduate student Sam Osorio hit a jumper at the 7:38 mark to make it 71-65, and the basket gave Orsorio 1,000 career points as she became the 30th player in program history to reach the milestone. The Gophers netted the next five points to get with a point; however, Moravian countered with a 6-0 run to stretch the lead to 77-70 on a jumper by junior guard Jayda Cartagena. The Hounds kept the advantage above five for the rest of the contest
Inside the Numbers
- The Greyhounds had four players in score in double figures with three recording double-doubles
- Sophomore guard Lizzie Lustig returned to the line-up with a team-high 18 points to go with a career-high 12 rebounds for her third career double-double, and Lustig also had a pair of assists
- Wallbillich finished with career highs of 17 points and seven rebounds while Osorio had 15 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals for her fourth double-double of the winter and 20th of her career. Osorio is 30th in program history with 1,002 points, and she is also seventh with 779 rebounds and ninth with 104 blocked shots
- Herbert tied her career highs with 12 points and 14 rebounds for her second double-double of the year while Cartagena recorded nine points, two assists and two board
- Pukszyn added six points, six rebounds and three assists while senior guard Mikayla Anderson registered six points, five boards and three assists
- Vassallo also netted six points with two rebounds and a pair of assists while freshman guard Sofia Squizziato had four rebounds, three points and two assists
- The Hounds shot 28-of-64 from the field, 1-for-3 beyond the three-point line and 35-for-49 at the foul line
- The Blue & Grey finished the night with a 70-44 advantage on the boards
