MONTCLAIR, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad dropped both of its contests in a tri-match at Montclair State University Saturday afternoon, falling to Kenyon (Ohio) College, 3-2, and the host Red Hawks, 3-0.
In the opening contest versus Kenyon, the Greyhounds won the opening two sets 28-26 and 25-23 before the Lords took the last three sets 25-16, 25-18 and 15-11 to close out the match. Sophomore outside hitter Sela Herber led the Hounds with 14 kills to go with six digs, three service aces and a pair of blocks while sophomore middle blocker Renee Mapa had 12 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Jess Appleton contributed 10 kills and three blocks while sophomore outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach had seven kills, 15 digs and three service aces. Senior setter Victoria Kauffman controlled the Blue and Grey offense with 40 assists to go with 10 digs, four kills and four service aces while junior right side hitter Emerson Gieryic had four kills and three digs. Freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mineo recorded a team high 18 digs to go with three assists while freshman setter Natalia Matos added 15 digs.
Host Montclair State won the opening set 25-14 and followed with set wins of 25-20 and 25-17. Herber led the Hounds with ten kills to go with four digs while Dreisbach contributed five kills and nine digs. Appleton and Mapa each had four kills with Mapa adding two blocks while Mineo led the Blue and Grey with ten digs. Freshman setter Taylor Morley had a team-high 16 assists to go with eight digs while Matos added six digs.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action after an 11-day break on Wednesday, October 23 when the squad hosts The University of Scranton in a Landmark Conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
