BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a four-run rally and post a 4-2 non-conference victory over visiting Montclair State University at Gillespie Field Wednesday afternoon.
The Greyhounds had eight hits in the contest with senior first baseman Evan Kulig going 3-for-4 with an RBI, a double and a triple. Senior outfielders Austin Markowski and Mike Mittl each added doubles for the Blue and Grey.
Freshman Eddie Olsen made the start on the mound and allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks to go with four strikeouts in five innings of action. Senior Brendon Caraway earned his first win of the year with two innings of relief that included four strikeouts while senior Tyler Caraway picked up her first save of the season with a hit and three strikeouts in two innings of work.
The Red Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning and Montclair State would also strand a pair of runners on base.
Moravian answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Junior second baseman Ian Csencsits led off with a single and raced home on an RBI triple to right field by Kulig. Freshman designated hitter David Bertolotti followed with an RBI single as the Hounds tied the game when Kulig touched the plate.
Olsen would work out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the fifth to keep the score tied.
The Hounds scored twice more in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead. Markowski led off with a double to left field, and he scored on a pinch hit double by Mittl. Later in the inning, Mittl would race home on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore shortstop Michael Miceli.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 23 when the squad begins a three-game Landmark Conference series with Elizabethtown College at Gillespie Field with the first pitch of the doubleheader slated for 12:30 p.m.
