BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2017-18 athletic campaign. The first story in the second list of the summer as part of the Top 10 Stories from the past year selected by the athletic administration is our No. 10 story – three baseball players all reaching the 100-hit milestone in the same game.
The Greyhounds had juniors left fielder Mike Mittl, center fielder Austin Markowski and third baseman Evan Kulig each collect their 100th career hit in the Greyhounds' 14-4 non-conference victory over Albright College at Gillespie Field on Thursday, April 5.
Moravian has had two players reach a milestone in the same game including one two months earlier in 2018 when juniors Oneil Holder and Jimmy Murray each reached 1,000 career points in the same men's basketball game versus Elizabethtown College but the baseball game versus Albright marked the first time in school history that three student-athletes hit the same career milestone in the same contest.
Mittl and Markowski began the afternoon each needing one hit to collect their 100th hits while Kulig needed two hits. Mittl was the first of the group to get to the milestone with a two-RBI single in the first inning, becoming Moravian's 32nd baseball student-athlete to 100 hits. Markowski connected an RBI double in the fifth inning for his 100th hit as the 33rd Greyhound to reach the milestone while Kulig would reach the milestone in the seventh inning when he ripped an RBI single for number 100 as the 34th to the milestone.
"Getting to 100 hits is a special moment for any player. To have all three guys get their 100th hit on the same day was amazing," said Head Coach Paul Engelhardt, who has coached at least one season during the careers of 24 of the Greyhounds' 34 student-athletes to the 100-hit milestone.
