Women's Cross Country Picked 4th in 2011 Landmark Conference Preseason Poll
The Moravian College women’s cross country team has been selected fourth in the 2011 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's cross country team has been selected fourth in the 2011 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Juniata College was selected first in the poll with 71 points, just one point ahead of defending champion Susquehanna University with 70 points. The University of Scranton was third with 63 points while the Greyhounds are in fourth place with 48 points. Goucher College earned 45 points for the fifth spot, and rounding out the poll were The Catholic University of America in sixth place with 34 points, The United States Merchant Marine Academy with 18 points and Drew University in eighth place with 15 points.
Moravian looks to challenge for the Landmark Conference Championship with the return a majority of its top runners including seven letterwinners on the women's squad with senior All-Conference runners Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) and Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) back. Rockwell, pictured at right, also earned All-NCAA Division III Mideast Region honors a year ago and competed at the NCAA Division III national Championships. Assistant distance coach David Cohen and a new director of cross country and track & field look to build their young team to be a top competitor in the Landmark Conference.
The Greyhounds begin their 2011 season on Friday, September 2nd at the Lehigh University Invitational at 5:30 p.m. The 2011 Landmark Conference championship meet will be held on Saturday, October 29th hosted by Moravian at Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
