Kulig & Jacoby Named Landmark Conference Baseball Player & Pitcher of the Week
TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College juniors third baseman Evan Kulig and pitcher Rhett Jacoby have been named as the Landmark Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.
TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College juniors third baseman Evan Kulig and pitcher Rhett Jacoby have been named as the Landmark Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.
The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 2-1 record at the Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney (Va.) College to begin the 2018 season.
Kulig hit .462 (6-for-13) with two hits in each game, and he added three doubles, four runs and five RBIs. He also had one putout and four assists in eight chances in the field and he faced one batter on the mound. Kulig was 2-for-5 with a double and five RBIs in a season opening 10-0 win over Stevenson University, and he was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles in a 2-0 win over Hampden-Sydney. He also had a 2-for-4 game in a 9-7 loss to Wesley (Del.) College.
"Evan was consistent every game in Virginia," commented Head Coach Paul Engelhardt. "He was our best hitter, and played the game hard. His success was a big reason we won two games, and has a chance to continue his success. He is also a junior that is playing with confidence and leadership."
Jacoby tossed the first seven innings of the Greyhounds' season-opening 10-0 win over Stevenson. Jacoby scattered two hits and struck out five batters in his seven innings of action, and he also had a putout and an assist and the only stolen base attempt against him was thrown out.
"Rhett threw very well for his first outing of the year," noted Engelhardt. "He had great command of all of his pitches, and looked good. Best thing for him was competing every pitch throughout the game. He looks like a junior with experience, and had a great start to the season."
The Greyhounds are slated to return to action in a non-conference game at Kean (N.J.) University beginning at 3:30 p.m.
