Hounds Sweep Juniata to Open 2026 Landmark Conference Slate
AUBURNDALE, Fla. --- The Moravian University baseball team swept Juniata College, 5-2 and 9-6, to begin the 2026 Landmark Conference season in a doubleheader played at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida on Friday.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Eagles broke onto the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning
- The Greyhounds answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. Senior first baseman Sean Superka led off with a double while sophomore shortstop David Vozzo singled and junior designated hitter Matt Westcott drew a walk to load the bases. Sophomore second baseman Nathan Jones connected on an RBI sacrifice fly to bring Superka home while Vozzo raced home on a throwing error after he and Westcott both stole bases. Sophomore third baseman Owen Ness hit a sacrifice fly to score Westcott with the go-ahead run
- The Blue & Grey tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-2 edge. Sophomore left fielder Troy Rabosky was hit by a pitch with an out and moved to third on another double by Superka. Rabosky would touch the plate on a balk while Superka raced home on a wild pitch
- Senior Ross Huffman made the start on the mound and tossed a complete game victory with 16 strikeouts while allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. Huffman's 16 strikeouts are tied for the second most in a single game in program history, and ties Brandon Close '12 for second as Close recorded 16 strikeouts in a 6-0 victory over The University of Scranton on April 9, 2011 at Gillespie Field
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Hounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Jones reached on an error with one out and sophomore designated hitter Ronnie Werkheiser drew a walk. Freshman catcher Chris Whalen followed with an RBI single as Jones touched the plate. After the second out of the inning, freshman right fielder Jack Cappo connected on an RBI double to send Werkheiser home. Sophomore center fielder Luke Keitsock ripped a two-RBI single that scored Whalen and Cappo scored
- Juniata got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fifth to cut the score to 4-1
- The Eagles added five runs in the top of the sixth inning to move ahead 6-4
- Moravian scored in the bottom of the eighth to take a 9-6 lead. Junior pinch hitter David Rodriguez led off with a single before junior Domenic Venini came into pinch run. Whalen and Ness were both hit by pitches before Westcott connected on a two-RBI double to score Venini and Whalen to tie the game. After Rabosky was intentionally walked, Ness put the Blue & Grey back on top when he raced home on a wild pitch. Westcott and Rabosky both scored on a fielder's choice hit by Vozzo
- Senior Matt Snyder started on the hill and registered nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings of action. Junior Nick Leonard tossed two-thirds of an inning while junior Caden Ward had three strikeouts in two innings of work. Junior Wes Griffith pitched the final inning with to earn his first save of the year
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had just ten hits in the doubleheader; however, the Hounds drew 13 walks and were hit by nine pitches
- Superka had two hits, both doubles, to go with two runs while Cappo had two hits, a double, a run and an RBI
- Westcott contributed a double, two runs and two RBIs while Whalen added a hit, two runs and an RBI
- Keitsock drove in two runs with a hit while Vozzo had two RBIs, a hit and a run
- Werkheiser and Rodriguez both had one hit with Werkhesier scoring once
- Rabosky scored twice, and he reached base seven times on four walks and three hit by pitch while Venini, Jones and Ness each touched the plate once
