Hounds Drop Doubleheader at Wilkes
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team dropped a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Wilkes University Saturday, falling 12-4 in the opener and 9-8 in the night cap.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Colonels scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, and Wilkes added a run in the second inning for a 2-0 lead
- The Greyhounds got onto the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the third to knot the score at 2-2. Sophomore catcher Ronnie Werkheiser reached on an error before sophomore left fielder Troy Rabosky connected on a one-out, two-run homer, his second home run of the season and ninth of his career
- Wilkes moved back ahead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, and the Colonels posted five runs in the sixth frame for an 11-2 edge
- Moravian pushed two runs home in the top of the seventh. Senior first baseman Sean Superka singled with one out and moved to third on a fielder's choice by sophomore center fielder Luke Keitsock. Freshman second baseman Jack Cappo ripped an RBI single to score Superka while Keitsock touched the plate when Werkheiser drew a bases loaded walk
- The Colonels finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the eighth
- Senior Ross Huffman started on the mound for the Blue & Grey and had two strikeouts in two innings of action. Junior Nate McBride recorded a strikeout in three innings of work while sophomore Chase Wengryn, senior Max Sponeheimer and junior Ryan Hoffman all pitched one inning
How It Happened – Game #2
- Wilkes opened the scoring in game two with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning
- Moravian scored seven times in the top of the fifth frame to take a 7-2 advantage. Rabosky drew a leadoff walk before sophomore shortstop David Vozzo connected on a double. Superka followed with a two-RBI single as Rabosky and Vozzo raced home. Junior designated hitter David Rodriguez was hit by a pitch before Keitsock ripped an RBI single to change Superka home for the lead. Junior right fielder Domenic Venini drew a walk while Werkheiser hit a two-RBI single to bring in Rodriguez and Keitsock. Venini raced home on a throw as Werkheiser stole second on a strikeout, and Werkheiser finished off the inning as he scored on an RBI double from Vozzo
- Wilkes scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to close the gap to 7-5
- The Hounds pushed the edge back to three with a run in the top of the eighth. Vozzo led off with a walk and would race home on an RBI sacrifice fly by Keitsock
- The Colonels scored four times with just one out in the bottom of the ninth to rally for the victory
- Senior Matt Snyder made the start on the mound, and he had three strikeouts in seven innings of work. Junior Caden Ward tossed an inning while junior Wes Griffith faced two batters, and junior Nick Leonard pitched the final third of an inning with one strikeout
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 17 hits in the twin bill with Werkheiser going 4-for-8 with two runs, three RBIs and a triple
- Superka was 3-for-8 with a double, two runs and two RBIs while sophomore third baseman Owen Ness had three hits
- Vozzo added two hits, two runs, two doubles and an RBI while Rabosky contributed two hits, two runs, a double, a homer and two RBIs
- Cappo had two hits and an RBI while Keitsock registered a hit, two runs and two RBIs and Rodriguez scored once
