Goetz Selected as Landmark Conference Softball Athlete of the Week
TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior first baseman Lauren Goetz has been named one of the Landmark Conference Softball Athletes of the Week.
TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior first baseman Lauren Goetz has been named one of the Landmark Conference Softball Athletes of the Week.
With the unprecedented cancellation of spring sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Landmark Conference will be recognizing an athlete from each member institution in each conference-sponsored spring sport for the remainder of the academic year. Honorees were nominated for recognition by their respective institution based on achievements from the shortened season and career accolades.
Goetz was hitting .433 through 10 games in 2020 when the season ended, and she had 13 hits, 10 runs, three doubles, two homers, 10 RBIs, a .733 slugging percentage and a .471 on-base percentage. Goetz, who was named to the 2017 & 2018 Landmark All-Conference First Team as a utility player and the 2019 Landmark All-Conference Second Team as a first baseman, had a .325 career batting average to go with 93 hits, 62 runs, 24 doubles, 16 home runs, seventh in school history, 90 RBIs, tied for 15th in program history, a .577 slugging percentage, seventh all-time, and a .381 on-base percentage. Goetz, who saw time in the outfield and as a designated player in addition to first base, had 414 putouts, 59 assists and a .987 fielding percentage, ninth in program history, in her career.
"Lauren had an excellent beginning to her senior season by hitting for both average and power during the team's 9-1 start in Florida," commented Head Coach John Byrne. "In addition, her play at first base has been stellar and her leadership has been invaluable as one of our captains. Lauren's future is bright as she transfers her successes from the diamond and classroom to her chosen field of nursing."
