MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team has been selected fifth in the 2012 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches.
Defending Landmark Conference Champion The University of Scranton was picked first in the poll with 55 points and five first-place votes while The Catholic University of America was second with 48 points and the remaining two first-place votes. Drew University and Susquehanna University each earned 31 points to tie for third in the poll the Greyhounds had 21 points for fifth place. Rounding out the poll were Goucher College in sixth place with 16 points and Juniata College in seventh with 15 points.
The Greyhounds will look to make their sixth straight postseason appearance this fall with four returning starters and six returning letterwinners back for the 2012 season under the direction of head coach Brienne Smith. Senior defender Eileen Black (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville HS) and sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall (Tinton Falls, N.J./St. Rose HS) will lead Moravian on the field after earning spots on the 2011 Landmark All-Conference Second Team. Black is Moravian's top returning scorer from last year after she netted four goals for eight points while Schall had an assist in 11 matches after missing the beginning of the season with an injury.
Moravian begins its 2012 season on Saturday, September 1st in a non-conference match versus Wilkes University beginning at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad. The 2012 Landmark Conference season will begin on Saturday, September 22nd as the Greyhounds host Catholic for a 1:00 p.m. start.
