Men's Tennis Starts 2012 Season with an 8-1 Win over Salve Regina
The Moravian College men’s tennis team opened its 2012 season under first-year head coach Art Smith with an 8-1 victory over Salve Regina University at the Falmouth Sports Center Saturday evening.
FALMOUTH, Mass. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team opened its 2012 season under first-year head coach Art Smith with an 8-1 victory over Salve Regina University at the Falmouth Sports Center Saturday evening.
The Greyhounds, who started the day with a trip to the Tennis Hall of Fame Saturday morning (see the photo album below), lead 2-1 after doubles action after an 8-5 win at first doubles from seniors Kevin Holze and Doug Morrow, and an 8-6 victory at second doubles by senior Drew Shreter and freshman Lewis Cooper. Senior David Chan and junior Brad Kutcha fought in the third doubles match, falling 8-5.
Moravian then swept the six singles matches to give Smith his first victory as the Greyhounds' head coach. Holze won in straight sets at first singles while Morrow swept a win at second singles. Shreter also captured a straight sets win at third singles while Cooper needed three sets for a victory at fourth singles in his first match for the Greyhounds. Kutcha had a straight sets win at fifth singles while Chan won in two sets at sixth singles.
The two squads will play another match on Cape Cod Sunday morning at 11 a.m. before the Greyhounds head back to Bethlehem.
