Greyhound Women Place 7th at Virginia Swashbuckle
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. --- The Moravian College women's track & field squad opened its 2012 outdoor season by placing seventh of 11 teams at the University of Virginia Team Swashbuckle Saturday.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. --- The Moravian College women's track & field squad opened its 2012 outdoor season by placing seventh of 11 teams at the University of Virginia Team Swashbuckle Saturday. The Greyhounds were the only NCAA Division III team in the meet, and Moravian scored 40 points. The host Cavaliers were first with 159 points while Army was second with 124 points.
Moravian had one individual champion, three ECAC qualifiers and six individual and one relay performances rank in the top 50 on the 2012 Track & Field Results Reporting System list to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Those ranked in the top 22 individuals and top 16 relays at the end of the season will compete at the national meet.
Senior Abby Schaffer won the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying mark of 3.95 meters (12 feet, 11 1/2 inches), which is tied for second on the TFRRS list. Freshman Hailey Kester was the runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 3.30 meters (ten feet, ten inches), which is tied for 19th, while freshman Dana Fineman placed fifth at 3.15 meters (ten feet, four inches), which is tied for 42nd on the TFRRS list, as Moravian earned 22 of its 40 points in the pole vault.
In other field results, sophomore Allison Vanek earned a point with an eighth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.83 meters (15 feet, 10 1/4 inches).
On the track, freshman Brielle Sutter finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 59.97 seconds, which is 17th on the TFRRS list, while senior Lisa Williamson was 11th in the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying mark of 26.16 seconds, which is 22nd on the TFRRS list. Freshman Morgan Redmond was 11th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.70, which is 23rd on the TFRRS list while senior Kristina Ruggiero was 16th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.60, which is 44th on the TFRRS list.
Moravian's "A" 4x400-meter relay squad of Williamson, Redmond, Sutter and freshman Brianna Wright placed tenth in a time of 4:08.46, which is 18th on the TFRRS list.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, March 31 when the team travels to the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University.
