Leonard Wins Long & Triple Jump at Muhlenberg Invitational
ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- Junior Micah Leonard won the triple jump to lead the Moravian College women's outdoor track & field team at the non-scoring Muhlenberg College Invitational Saturday.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- Junior Micah Leonard won the long jump and the triple jump to lead the Moravian College women's outdoor track & field team at the non-scoring Muhlenberg College Invitational Saturday.
Leonard, who was competing for the first time this outdoor season, won the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 11.42 meters (35 feet, 5 3/4 inches), the ninth best distance in school history. The mark is also tied for 12th on the 2012 Track & Field Results Reporting System list to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Those women ranked in the top 22 individuals and top 16 relays at the end of the season will compete at the national meet. Leonard also won the long jump at 5.07 meters (16 feet, 7 3/4 inches).
The Greyhounds had one other ECAC qualifying mark as freshman Hailey Kester finished second in the pole vault at 3.36 meters (11 feet, 1/2 inch), a height that would be tied for 26th on the TFRRS list but Kester is already tied for 22nd. Kester also placed seventh in the triple jump at 9.89 meters (32 feet, 5 1/2 inches), and she was ninth in the long jump at 4.56 meters (14 feet, 11 1/2 inches).
Freshman Dana Fineman was fourth in the pole vault at 3.05 meters (ten feet) while freshman Alexis Wright took sixth in the high jump at 1.47 meters (four feet, 9 3/4 inches) and ninth in the triple jump at 9.72 meters (31 feet, 10 3/4 inches). Freshman Giana Vecchio placed eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 9.73 meters (31 feet, 11 1/4 inches) while freshman Jenny Kratch finished in the top ten of three throwing events. Kratch was third in the discus with a toss of 33.70 meters (110 feet, seven inches), and she finished ninth in the javelin at 26.71 meters (87 feet, seven inches) and tenth in the shot put with a toss of 9.39 meters (30 feet, 9 3/4 inches). Freshman Allissa Hoffman took tenth in the javelin at 26.53 meters (87 feet).
On the track, senior Lisa Williamson finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.63 seconds, and she was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.26. Senior Cadee Rockwell was third in the 1,500-meter run in 5:00.45 while sophomore Jennifer Smilgis took eighth in 5:17.52. Freshman Brianna Wright was fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.30 seconds, and she was fifth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.68. Williamson, Smilgis and Wright teamed up with senior Kristina Ruggerio to place fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:20.73.
Sophomore Jaqueline Olmstead finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.98 seconds for the Greyhounds while freshman Claire DelCasale took eighth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 19:28.23.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14 when they host the Coach P Open at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
