Six Moravian Women Honored as 2017 USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region Selections

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian College women's track & field squad has had six student-athletes honored as United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region selections this week.

The USTFCCCA is in its second year named All-Region selections for indoor and outdoor track & field at the NCAA Division III level after having All-Region honors in cross country for a number of years. For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-3 relay team. Moravian is part of the Mideast Region.

Moravian honorees include senior Jackie Finnegan and junior Trista Cunningham in the hammer throw, junior Mary Kate Duncan in the javelin, junior Casie Cronk in the high jump, junior Melissa Cheong in the long jump and freshman Carly Danoski in the 800-meter run. Finnegan had a season-best and school-record toss of 49.19 meters (161-5) at the Lehigh University Games while Cunningham's best toss of 46.85 meters (153-8) at the ECAC Division III Championships. Duncan won the ECAC Division III Championship with a season-best toss of 45.82 meters (150-4) while Cronk was the runner-up at the ECAC Division III Championships with a season-best clearance of 1.64 meters (5-4.25). Cheong's top long jump of the year 5.57 meters (18-3.25) won the Landmark Conference Championship while Danoski had a season-best time of 2:15.23 at the Lehigh University Games.

"We have a very strong region with multiple athletes ranked in the top five in the country, so to make the All-Region team is a great honor," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We had some athletes really standout this year, obviously Mary Kate, but Casie and Mel were huge anchors for us in both jumps and both narrowly missed the NCAAs. Trista and Jackie were a big reason we were able to get second this weekend at ECACs, and Carly was close to setting our school record in the 800 this year."

Duncan is slated to compete in the javelin at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor National Championship being hosted by the University of Mount Union in Geneva, Ohio on Thursday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m. to complete the outdoor season. Duncan enters the meet with the second best throw in the nation this season.
