Greyhounds Split 5-Set Matches at Old Friends Crossover
SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women’s volleyball team split a pair of five-set matches at the Old Friends Crossover hosted by Susquehanna University Friday evening as the Greyhounds defeated Messiah College, 3-2, in their opening match before falling to future Landmark Conference foe Elizabethtown College, 3-2, in the second contest.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of five-set matches at the Old Friends Crossover hosted by Susquehanna University Friday evening as the Greyhounds defeated Messiah College, 3-2, in their opening match before falling to future Landmark Conference foe Elizabethtown College, 3-2, in the second contest.
The Greyhounds opened the evening with a marathon 29-27, 16-25, 28-26, 26-28, 15-12 win over the Falcons. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Hostetler led the Greyhounds with 18 kills to go with eight digs while freshman right side hitter Taylor Kornmann added 16 kills and a pair of blocks. Junior outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo contributed seven kills, seven digs, three blocks and a pair of service aces while sophomore middle blocker Victoria Bobyak added six kills and three service aces. Senior setter Kelly Brown ran the offence with 46 assists, and she added 14 digs and three kills while freshman libero Kim Groff led Moravian with 17 digs to go along with two assists. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Piccinich added five kills and four blocks in the victory.
In the second match, the Blue Jays, who are joining the Landmark Conference as a full member beginning in 2014-15, earned the win over the Greyhounds by set scores of 19-25, 25-17, 21025, 25-22, 15-13. Hostetler led the Greyhounds once again with 19 kills and 16 digs while Kornmann had 16 kills and five blocks. Bobyak added ten kills and four blocks while Brown ran the offense with 50 assists to go along with 11 digs and five blocks. Comitalo led the Greyhounds with 19 digs to go with eight kills. Groff had 18 digs for Moravian while Megan Szkolnicki contributed a team high four service aces. Piccinich had six kills and three blocks for the Greyhounds while Andrea Giardina added eight digs for a total of 11 for the evening.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 21 in a tri-match at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia with Lycoming College.
