BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's tennis squad began its 2024-25 season with a 7-0 victory over visiting DeSales University in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts Saturday.
How It Happened
- The Hounds swept all three doubles matches to garner the lone team point as the team score is now seven points instead of nine. The duo of junior Ryan Burke and freshman Joey Kelly earned a 6-0 win at third doubles to open the match while seniors Wyatt Marshall and Ronny Pimentel Ferrer posted a 6-1 victory at first doubles to clinch the team point. Senior Anthony Ronca and sophomore Gavin Labbadia finished the sweep in doubles with a 6-2 triumph at second doubles
- The NCAA and Intercollegiate Tennis Association changed the NCAA Division III rules beginning this fall for doubles action to count as one point overall instead of a point for each of the three matches. The doubles contests are also a single six-point set now instead of an eight-game pro set
- Pimentel Ferrer finished first in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles while Burke had a 6-2, 6-2 victory at third singles to make it 3-0. Labaddia recorded a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at first singles while freshman Max Goldenberg earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles for the match-clinching fifth team point. Sophomore Garrett Morris posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles while junior Matt Labosky had a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at fourth singles to complete the sweep
