Kelly Garners Landmark Men’s Tennis All-Conference Honors; Freitas Honored as Coach Of The Year
TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University freshman Joey Kelly has been named to the 2025 Landmark Men’s Tennis All-Conference Honorable Mention squad in singles while Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas and her assistants were named the Landmark Conference Men’s Tennis Coaching Staff of the Year.
TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University freshman Joey Kelly has been named to the 2025 Landmark Men's Tennis All-Conference Honorable Mention squad in singles while Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas and her assistants were named the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Coaching Staff of the Year.
Freitas and assistant coaches Peter Demyan, Nicholas Espinoza, Eiman Nazif and Lauren Steinert guided the Greyhounds to a 13-8 overall record and a 6-3 slate in the Landmark Conference regular season to garner the fourth seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The Hounds defeated fifth seed Susquehanna University, 4-0, in the first round of the tournament before falling to top seed Goucher College, 4-3, in the Semifinals. Freitas has a 54-26 record leading the Moravian men over the last four years.
"It is with great pride to recognize and congratulate Mariana and her staff on this tremendous accomplishment," commented Director of Athletics Mary Beth Spirk. "Certainly, her hard work is evident in garnering the Men's Coach of the Year award. Moravian's tennis program will continue to be a force in the Landmark and beyond with Mariana leading it. Congratulations!"
Kelly posted a 12-3 singles mark in his debut collegiate season including a 10-2 slate at fifth singles. Kelly was 6-1 in Landmark Conference matches, and he had a 10-6 mark in doubles with sophomore Gavin Labbadia this year.
"This is a well-deserved recognition for Joey, earning honorable mention in singles," Freitas said. "He made an immediate impact on our team and has shown great promise and potential for the future. I'm excited to see what's next for him."
