Six Greyhounds Garner 2025 USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Metro Region Honors
NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian University women’s track & field team has had six student-athletes selected for seven spots on the 2025 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region.
NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian University women's track & field team has had six student-athletes selected for seven spots on the 2025 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region.
For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-3 relay team. The program must also be a member of the USTFCCCA. Moravian is part of the Metro Region.
Moravian had seven individual selections. Junior Tara Smurla was named All-Region in both the 5,000-meter and the 10,000-meter runs. Smurla had best time in the region of 36:33.52 in the 10,000-meter run at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic on April 12, and she had the third-best time in the region in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:35.04 at the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational at Princeton University on April 4.
Seniors Rachael Goodman and Amber Poniktera both earned All-Region in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Goodman having the second-best time of 11:22.33 at the 2025 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Outdoor Championships at Williams (Mass.) College on May 14 while Poniktera was third in the region at 11:22.42 at the same meet. Senior Abby Giamoni garnered a spot in the 400-meter dash with the fifth-best regional and school record time of 56.64 seconds at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University on March 28.
Junior Margie Rayne garnered All-Region in the discus with the region's second-ranked and a Moravian and Landmark Conference record toss of 44.06 meters (144-7) at the 2025 Landmark Conference Championships at Susquehanna University on May 4 while junior Ali Haefele was All-Region in the triple jump at the fifth-best distance of 11.49 meters (37-8.5) at the at the AARTFC meet on May 15.
