BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2018-19 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 7 highlight – the women's basketball team rallying from the six-point deficit with under three minutes to play in regulation to post a 75-70 overtime victory at The Catholic University of America.
The Greyhounds, who completed the 2018-19 season with a 16-10 overall record, played just one overtime game in 2018-19 while reaching the postseason for the 18th consecutive winter.
On Saturday, January 5, the Hounds traveled to Washington, D.C. to resume the conference schedule and the second half of the season. Moravian jumped out to an early lead against the Cardinals and had a 22-18 advantage after the first quarter. The Blue and Grey continued their hot shooting and headed to the locker room with a 34-27 edge.
Catholic would come out and cut Moravian's lead down to two points, 48-46, after 30 minutes of play, and the Cardinals led 61-55 with just 2:44 left in regulation. Junior guard Karlie Brogan hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit in half while junior guard Maddie Capuano hit a jumper and two free throws, the later coming with 12 seconds left to knot the score at 62-62 and force overtime.
In the extra session, junior center Nadine Ewald hit a free throw for a 67-66 edge with 1:36 left on the clock before Moravian went 8-for-8 at the foul line in the final 52 seconds including four free throws from sophomore guard Jennifer McClave to seal the victory that improve the Hounds' record to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in Landmark Conference action at the time.
