BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2019-20 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 9 highlight – the men's soccer team beginning the 2019 Landmark Conference season with a 3-2, double-overtime victory on John Makuvek Field.
The Greyhounds would finish the 2019 season with an 11-7-1 record, and a 4-3 slate in Landmark Conference action as the squad made the Landmark Conference Tournament for the second consecutive fall. During the season, the Hounds played six overtime matches in a span of eight contests, going 4-1-1 in those six matches.
On a sunny afternoon on John Makuvek Field on September 28, the Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when sophomore forward Andrew Goodolf knocked in a rebound of a shot by junior forward Ethan Blakely. The Eagles would answer in the 23rd minute before Moravian moved back in front three minutes later when sophomore forward Safa Turkdonmez connected on a Goodolf rebound for a 2-1 edge.
The score remained that way until the 82nd minute when Juniata put a shot in to tie the contest at 2-2.
After a scoreless first overtime, freshman midfielder Dave Steinbach was in the right place at the right time to tap a misplayed ball by the Juniata goalie into the back of the net for the winning goal in the 108th minute.
