TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University senior Karalyn Vashey has been named as the Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors for her performance last week.
Vashey smashed her school record in the 20-pound weight throw by nearly 19 inches with an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying toss of 17.19 meters (56-4.75) as she placed fifth in the event at the Widener University Indoor Classic on Friday afternoon. Vashey's record toss came on her third attempt of the preliminaries, and all five of her measurable throws went farther than 16.50 meters.
"Kara was able to extend her school record in the weight throw at the Widener Indoor Classic this past weekend, and we are proud of how she was able to compete with very good throwers in the event on Friday.," commented Assistant Throwing Coach Ryan Harper. "Kara has been working hard in training and building confidence with some technical changes being made in her throw. We are excited to see how she continues to compete and what the next few weeks holds for Kara."
Vashey garnered her third Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honor after being honored on January 20 and January 27.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, February 20 with the throwers heading to the Kutztown University Golden Bear Invitational and the remainder of the squad competing in the Penn State University Tune-Up.
