#17 Moravian Swept Doubleheader Against Juniata
The 17th-ranked Moravian College softball team swept a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Juniata College on Sunday, winning the first game 11-3 and taking the second game 10-3.

The 17th-ranked Moravian College softball team swept a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Juniata College on Sunday, winning the first game 11-3 and taking the second game 10-3.
In the opener, the Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior second baseman Stephanie Falzarano led off the game with a single and she scored on an RBI single by sophomore third baseman Shannen Mohr.
Moravian scored four times in the top of the third inning to increase its lead to 5-0. With two outs, junior outfielder Olivia Evanko singled and freshman designated player Taylor Mihalik followed with a double. Mohr walked to load the bases before junior pitcher Jenna Carmon hit a three RBI double. Sophomore first baseman Amanda Dizinno hit an RBI single to score Carmon.
The Greyhounds would push their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth inning on a lead off solo home run by senior outfielder Amanda Paulus, pictured at right, her third homer of the season.
The Eagles scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut Moravian's lead in half to 6-3. Junior Allison Gerlach had an RBI single to score the first run and she would cross the plate on a wild pitch while sophomore Steph Frith had an RBI single.
Moravian scored once in the top of the sixth inning when Paulus connected on an RBI double to score sophomore pinch runner Samantha Mulderig.
The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Evanko reached on an error to start the inning, and she scored on a passed ball while Mohr crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Sophomore outfielder Brook Kowal had an RBI single before Paulus finished the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly.
Moravian had a 12-8 edge in hits with Paulus going two-for-three with three RBIs, a homer and a double. Dizinno was also two-for-three with an RBI while freshman catcher Cassie Ernst was two-for-three. Carmon was one-for-two with three RBIs. Junior Amanda Gerlach was two-for-four to lead Juniata.
Senior Elizabeth Python, pictured at left, picked up her seventh win of the season in the circle for Moravian with just three hits and a pair of strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings of relief action. Carmon started the game and gave up three runs on five hits and a walk with one strikeout in 3 1/3 innings. Freshman Mason Kersey took the loss for Juniata after allowing 11 runs, seven earned, on 12 hits and two walks while striking out two.
In the second game, Moravian took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Kowal singled before senior shortstop Maura Agnew connected on a two-run homer, her first home run of the season. Mohr drew a bases loaded walk to drive in Falzarano with the other run.
Juniata answered with three runs in the bottom half of the second to tie the game. Allison Gerlach, Frith and junior Kelsey Shutt each had RBI singles in the inning.
The Greyhounds would retake the lead for good in the top of the third inning when Paulus led off with a solo home run, her fourth homer of the season.
Moravian added four runs in the top of the fourth inning to push its lead to 8-3. Mohr had an RBI single to score freshman outfielder Miranda Sergas while Mihalik scored on a wild pitch. Python put down an RBI sacrifice bunt to score Mohr while Kowal had an RBI double that pushed Paulus across the plate.
The Greyhounds finished the scoring with two runs in the top half of the sixth. Kowal was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded while Falzarano had an RBI fielder's choice.
Moravian had a 9-6 edge in hits in the second contest with Kowal going two-for-three with two RBIs. Paulus was one-for-two with a homer and three runs scored while Agnew, pictured at right, was one-for-four with two RBIs. Mohr was one-for-two for the Greyhounds with a pair of RBIs.
Python picked up her second win of the afternoon in relief again, allowing just a hit and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings of action. Sophomore Alyssa Fegely started for the Greyhounds and gave up three runs, two earned on five hits in two innings of action. Freshman Kelsea Decker took the loss for Juniata, allowing ten runs, nine earned, on nine hits and nine walks to go with four strikeouts.
