#23 Softball Finished Florida Trip with 5-4 Win Over Babson
The 23rd-ranked Moravian College softball team closed out its Spring Break trip to the National Training Center with a 5-4 win over Babson College Saturday morning.
The 23rd-ranked Moravian College softball team closed out its Spring Break trip to the National Training Center with a 5-4 win over Babson College Saturday morning.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman outfielder Miranda Sergas was hit by a pitch with one out, and freshman catcher Cassie Ernst singles. After an out, freshman designated player Taylor Mihalik walked to load the bases then sophomore first baseman Amanda Dizinno hit a two-RBI single to score Sergas and Ernst.
Babson tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Second baseman Jackie Enos reached on an error, one of six by the Greyhounds in the game, and scored on a two-out, two-run homer by designated player Nicole Latini.
Moravian retook the lead in the top of the second. Senior outfielder Maura Agnew led off with a double and scored on an error by the Beavers.
The Greyhounds extended their lead to 5-2 with two runs in the top half of the sixth inning. Dizinno led off with a single and senior Olivia Evanko came into pinch run. Eventually, senior second baseman Stephanie Falzarano hit a two-RBI double to score Evanko and freshman third baseman Leann Ventriglia.
Babson scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI by catcher Jess Pashos and an RBI triple from Latini.
Moravian had a 7-5 edge in hits with Dizinno going two-for-four. Latini was two-for-four to lead Babson while outfielder Lisa Wojnar went two-for-three.
Junior Jenna Carmon improved to 3-1 in the circle for the Greyhounds, allowing four unearned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five batters. Christina Miquel took the loss for the Beavers after giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
