TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University junior Izzy Szmodis has been selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.
Szmodis earned a singles victory for the Greyhounds as Moravian began the 2025 spring season with a 5-2 loss to NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Szmodis and sophomore Leah Zolotareva fell 6-2 at first doubles before Szmodis rallied for a 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 1-0 (10-8) win at second singles for the Hounds' first point of the match.
"Izzy had an incredible performance this past Saturday, playing one of the best matches I've seen from her," stated Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas. "It's clear how much she's grown both as a player and as a leader on the court. I'm excited to watch her continue to compete this season."
The Greyhounds are slated to return to the courts on Sunday, February 23 for a non-conference match versus rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse.
