Moravian Rally Comes Up Short Versus Brooklyn in 22nd Steel Club Classic Championship
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s basketball team nearly rallied from a 16-point fourth quarter deficit before falling to Brooklyn (N.Y.) College, 79-74, in the championship game of the 22nd Steel Club Classic in Johnston Hall Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Bulldogs netted the first four points of the contest before sophomore guard Megan Elias got the Hounds on the scoreboard with a jumper. The Blue & Grey made it a three-point game, trailing 13-10 after a lay-up by sophomore guard Mallory Elias at the 3:53 mark; however, Brooklyn finished the quarter on an 11-3 run to lead 24-13 after ten minutes of action
- The Bulldogs made the edge as large as 20 points in the second quarter before the Greyhounds closed within 12 points at 38-26 on a jumper from junior guard Lizzie Lustig with 1:17 left in the half. Brooklyn added one more basket to head to the intermission with a 40-26 advantage
- The Bulldogs led by double digits for the entire third quarter with Moravian getting within ten points on a pair of free throws from junior forward Lanie Herbert at the 6:35 mark. Brooklyn held a 58-44 edge after 30 minutes of play
- Brooklyn scored the first basket of the fourth quarter, and the Bulldogs led by 16 at 62-46 with 7:58 remaining. The Hounds went on a 12-2 run to get within six points at 64-58 on a jumper from Lustig. Moravian made it a four-point game at 71-67 with 1:26 remaining when Herbert hit a jumper but that would be as close as the Greyhounds would get
- The Blue & Grey were playing in the championship game of the Steel Club Classic for the 18th time and have 11 titles overall
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players in double figures led by Lustig, who netted 20 points to go with six rebounds and three assists as she earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team
- Herbert finished with a career-high 16 points to go along with two rebounds as she was named to the All-Tournament Team as well while Megan Elias tossed in 12 points to go with three rebounds and two assists
- Mallory Elias posted seven points, four assists and two rebounds while senior guard Juliana Vassallo registered seven points, four boards and three assists while
- Junior forward Grace Steffen had five points, four rebounds and a pair of blocked shots while senior guard Jayda Cartagena added four points, three assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals
- Sophomore guard Ellie Wallbillich recorded two points and two rebounds while sophomore guard Kylie Cabana had a point, two assists and a rebound and freshman guard Abby Hayes added two assists and a rebound
- The Hounds shot 27-for-64 from the field (42.2 percent), 6-for-16 on three-pointers and 14-for-17 at the foul line
