Moravian Races Out to Win over Gwynedd Mercy in 2026 Season Opener
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men’s lacrosse team led 5-0 at the end of the first quarter on the way to a 9-5 victory over visiting Gwynedd Mercy University in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon on John Makuvek Field to begin the 2026 season.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring with 8:42 left in the first quarter as junior midfielder Adam Twist netted an unassisted goal. Just over a minute and a half later, senior attack Ryan Kokoszka tallied an unassisted goal while freshman attack Jack Minetti made it 3-0 with 6:11 to go in the opening period off a pass from sophomore midfielder Robert Celona. The Blue & Grey added a pair of goals in the final minute of the half as junior attack Nick Coffaro found the goal off a pass from Celona while Minetti scored a man-up mark from Coffaro just before the quarter ended
- Minetti pushed the Moravian edge to 6-0 when he scored off a pass from Kokoszka just a minute and a half into the second quarter. After the Griffins scored at the six-minute mark, senior short stick defensive midfielder RJ Toogood scored an unassisted goal and Minetti found the net off a pass from junior midfielder Hunter Klapmuts to extend the lead to 8-1. Gwynedd Mercy scored again in the final minute of the half to set the score at 8-2 for the Hounds after 30 minutes of action
- The Griffins netted the only two goals of the third quarter, and Gwynedd Mercy scored four and a half minutes into the fourth quarter to get within three goals at 8-5. Coffaro finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal with 8:39 remaining
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had seven different players record a point led by Minetti with four goals in his collegiate debut to go with four ground balls
- Coffaro contributed two goals and an assist while Kokoszka had a goal and an assist
- Twist and Toogood each netted one goal with Toogood scooping up four ground balls while Celona had a pair of assists and Klapmuts added one assist
- Junior goalie Liam Kelly recorded ten saves to go with five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior defenders James Panico and Mike Sickler and junior defender Andrew Cassese all had three caused turnovers and three ground balls
- Sophomore face-off specialist Owen Deady was 10-for-17 on face-offs with five ground balls while sophomore long stick midfielder Dylan DeNaples and junior short stick defensive midfielder Mike Willis both scooped up two ground balls
- The Hounds finished with a 38-25 advantage in shots while winning 10-of-17 face-offs, and the Blue & Grey were 23-for-29 on clearing attempts
