Hounds Race Past Washington & Jefferson to Wrap Up Western PA Trip
WASHINGTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University men’s lacrosse squad raced out to a 14-0 first half lead on the way to a 20-1 non-conference victory at Washington & Jefferson College Sunday.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds raced out to an 8-0 lead after the first quarter. Junior midfielder Hunter Klapmuts had a pair of unassisted goals in the fifth minute of action while junior attack Kyle Gann added a man-up goal with ten minutes remaining in the first period. Freshman attack Jack Minetti tallied a man-up goal off a pass from senior attack Ryan Kokoszka at the 7:56 mark while junior attack Nick Coffaro netted an unassisted goal midway through the quarter. Sophomore midfielder Robert Celona added a goal with just over five minutes left in the period off a pass from Coffaro, and Coffaro and Klapmuts both scored again in the final minute of the quarter
- The Blue & Grey needed just 20 seconds to score in the second quarter when Kokoszka found a net set up by Coffaro while Coffaro pushed the advantage into double digits with an unassisted goal at the 13:20 mark. Freshman midfielder Connor Grant found the net off a pass from Coffaro, and Kokoszka scored another unassisted goal. With just under five minutes left in the half, freshman attack Tyler Bowden scored off a pass from Kokoszka. Senior attack Vincent Devito tallied a goal with an assist from Coffaro with 2:34 to play until halftime as Moravian took a 14-0 advantage into the intermission
- The Hounds scored four goals in the third quarter with Grant opening the period with a goal from Klapmuts. Freshman midfielder Andrew Nappi netted a goal off a pass from junior short stick defensive midfielder Finn McGovern while sophomore midfielder Dominic Houck tallied a goal set up by Minetti. Nappi scored again off another McGovern pass before the Presidents got on the scoreboard in the final minute of the period to make it 18-1 after 45 minutes of action
- The Greyhounds finished the scoring with a pair of goals in the fourth quarter with junior attack Jay Ashforth and freshman attack Bradley Carotenudo both netting goals
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 15 players register a point in the contest led by Coffaro, who had three goals and five assists to go along with a pair of ground balls
- Klapmuts contributed three goals and an assist while Kokoszka posted two goals, two assists and two ground balls
- Nappi recorded two goals and an assist while Grant had a pair of goals
- Minetti registered a goal, an assist and two ground balls while Ashforth, Celona, Carotenudo, Houck, Devito, Bowden and Gann all had one goal
- McGovern added two assists while junior attack Aiden LaCorte had one assist
- Sophomore face-off specialist Owen Deady went 12-for-16 on face-offs with 11 ground balls while senior short stick defensive midfielder Nick Mancini was 2-for-4
- Junior long stick midfielder Andrew Cassese registered four caused turnovers and three ground balls while senior defender Mike Sickler had a pair of caused turnovers
- Junior midfielder Adam Twist and sophomore defender Dylan DeNaples both had two ground balls
- Junior goalie Liam Kelly did not make a save and had three ground balls while playing the first half of the contest. Junior goalie Nick Crames posted one save in 15 minutes of action while sophomore goalie Chris Piluso had three saves in the final quarter
- The Hounds held a 61-8 advantage in shots and a 42-20 edge in ground balls, and Moravian was 15-for-24 on face-offs, 18-for-20 on clears and 2-for-5 with an extra man
