Greyhounds Rally Past Rival Muhlenberg in Double Overtime to Start 2025-26 Campaign
ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University men’s basketball team trailed host and rival Muhlenberg College by 14 points just over eight minutes into action before rallying for a 96-93 double-overtime victory to start the 2025-26 season in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds took a 3-0 lead on a three-pointer by senior guard Porter Kelly on the first possession of the season; however, the Mules scored nine straight points before senior forward Marquis Ratcliff sank a free throw at the 16:24 mark. Muhlenberg pushed out to a 20-6 lead, and the Mules were up 22-8 with 11:57 to go in the first half after a pair of free throws
- Kelly and senior forward Liam Cummiskey connected on three-pointers to start Moravian's rally, and after a free throw by Muhlenberg, Cummiskey and senior guard Chad Kratzer hit three-pointers to pull the Blue & Grey within three points at 23-20 with 6:47 left in the opening half. The Hounds were unable to get any closer than three points before the intermission, but two free throws by Ratcliff with 19 seconds left sent the teams to the locker room with the Mules up 37-34
- Muhlenberg held the advantage until Ratcliff knotted the contest at 48-48 with a free throw at the 13:37 mark. The Mules moved back on top until the Greyhounds finally retook a 54-53 edge on two Ratcliff free throws with 8:48 on the clock
- The Mules retook a five-point lead at 66-61 with just over five minutes to go while the Hounds countered to go up by a point at 67-66 on a lay-up from Ratcliff with 3:30 remaining in regulation. Muhlenberg had a three-point lead with 19 seconds left before a three-pointer by Kratzer with just two seconds to go forced overtime with the squads tied at 75-75
- Muhlenberg scored first in the overtime session while a three-pointer by Ratcliff had the Blue & Grey up 78-77. The Mules moved out to an 84-81 edge before Ratcliff sank two free throws with five seconds to go to make it 84-83. Muhlenberg sank a free throw for a two-point lead, but Kelly beat the buzzer with a lay-up to tie the game at 85-85 and force a second overtime
- Ratcliff began second overtime with a jumper before four points from the Mules. Kelly tied the contest again at 89-89 while Muhlenberg countered for a 93-90 edge with just under two minutes on the clock. Kratzer sank two free throws to get the Blue & Grey within a point with 1:43 to go, and Kelly drained a pair of free throws just four seconds later to give Moravian a 94-93 advantage. Kelly added a lay-up off an offensive rebound from senior guard Colin Farrell with 21 seconds to go for the final points of the contest
- The victory was the first career win for Moravian Interim Head Coach Michael Mayes
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian put five players in double figures with Ratcliff netting a career-high 35 points for his ninth 30-plus point game in a Greyhound uniform, and he added 12 rebounds and three assists for his 28th career double-double
- Kratzer tossed in 16 points to go with six boards and a pair of assists while Kelly and Cummiskey each had 14 points with Kelly adding five rebounds and three assists and Cummiskey, who tied his career high in points, posting six boards and three assists
- Sophomore guard Dylan Costa scored 11 points off the bench while junior guard Joel Baez had four points in his first game with the Hounds
- Junior guard George Cutler registered two points while Farrell added three steals and a pair of rebounds
- The Blue & Grey shot 27-for-63 from the field (42.9 percent), 10-for-25 beyond the three-point line and 32-for-36 at the foule line with Ratcliff going 18-for-21 at the charity stripe
