Greyhounds’ Final Shot Falls Short in Two-Point Loss to Drew
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men’s basketball squad nearly rallied from a six-point deficit in the final 1:28 as the final shot caromed off the rim in a 95-93 loss to visiting Drew University in Landmark Conference action at Johnston Hall Wednesday evening to close the first half of the conference schedule.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring with a three-point play and a jumper by junior guard Joel Baez for a 5-0 lead in the first minute and a half of action. The Rangers tied the contest at 5-5 before lay-ups by senior guards Porter Kelly and Chad Kratzer had the Hounds back up 9-5. Drew countered with a 6-0 run to take an 11-9 edge, and the Rangers made it 16-12 at the 13:50 mark. Moravian answered with an 8-0 run to go ahead 20-16 with 11:52 on the clock as Kratzer hit another lay-up. Junior guard George Cutler scored on a lay-up to give the Blue & Grey a 24-21 advantage midway through the half
- Drew ran off eight consecutive points for a 29-24 lead while the Greyhounds countered with a 10-0 run to lead 34-29 with 6:29 left in the half after a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Dylan Costa. The Rangers pulled back ahead, 38-26, before senior forward Liam Cummiskey drained a three-pointer for the Hounds. The squads traded the lead four times over the last three minutes of the half with Moravian taking a 47-45 edge into the intermission
- The Rangers started the second half with a three-pointer to take a one-point lead before Baez got the Hounds on the scoreboard and back on top. Drew pushed out to a seven-point edge, leading 64-57 with 14:02 to go. Moravian answered with a 7-0 run to knot the score at 64-64 on a lay-up by sophomore guard JJ Kolumber at the 11:06 mark. The Rangers ended the run; however, a Cummiskey three-pointer and a three-point play from Baez had the Greyhounds leading 70-66 with just under ten minutes left
- The contest remained close for the next five minutes with the Blue & Grey going up 82-78 on a three-pointer from Kelly with 5:09 remaining. Drew answered with a 14-4 run to build a 92-86 advantage with 1:28 to play. Baez and senior forward Marquis Ratcliff had lay-ups to get Moravian within two at 92-90 while a three-pointer from Kratzer had the Greyhounds down just a point at 94-93 with 21 seconds left. The Rangers made a free throw to make it a two-point contest while Kratzer's final three-pointer with under three seconds to play for the win bounced off the rim as the final shot of the contest
Inside the Numbers
- Each of Moravian starters reached in double figures led by Kelly, who tossed 25 points to go with one rebound, two assists and one steal
- Kratzer finished with 18 points, four boards and two assists while Cummiskey contributed 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot
- Baez posted 14 points, two rebounds, one assist and a career-high four blocks while Ratcliff had 11 points, 13 rebounds, a career-high seven assists, one steal and four blocked shots. It was Ratcliff's fifth double-double of the season and first in 12 games, and the 32nd double-double of his career
- The Hounds shot 36-for-73 from the field, 12-for-28 on three-pointers and 9-for-11 at the foul line while forcing the Rangers into 17 turnovers
- The Hounds scored 46 points in the paint and combined for 10 points off the bench including four points from junior guard/forward Riley Flood
