Hounds Race Past Alvernia at Spring Games
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. --- The Moravian University softball squad raced past Alvernia University, 11-2 in six innings, to begin the second day of action at the PFX Spring Games in Florida Tuesday morning.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in top of the first inning. Senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys drew a one out walk while junior catcher Marcie Silberman and senior left fielder Sage Snyder singled to load the bases. Sophomore designated player Kyra Holtje followed with a grand slam home run to center field, her second homer of the season
- The Golden Wolves answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the Moravian edge to 4-2
- The Blue & Grey got the two runs back in the top of the third frame for a 6-2 advantage. Snyder was hit by a pitch and stole second before racing home on an RBI double from Holtje. After a single by graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore, junior right fielder Sarah DeStefano hit an RBI ground out to send Holtje across the plate
- The Hounds added a run in the top of the fourth to make it 7-2. Senior shortstop Holly Walter connected on a one-out triple before scoring on an RBI sacrifice fly by Gawrys
- Moravian finished off the scoring with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Walter and Gawrys hit back-to-back singles to start the frame before Silberman ripped a two-RBI double. Snyder drew a walk before Elmore connected on a two-RBI single to bring in sophomore pinch runner Cassandra Farrell and Snyder
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 13 hits in contest with Holtje going 2-for-3 with five RBIs, two runs, a double and a homer
- Snyder was 2-for-2 with three runs scored while Walter, Silberman and Elmore were all 2-for-4 with Walter scoring twice to reach 100 career runs and adding a triple to move into a tie for second in program history with 13 career triples, Silberman adding a run, a double and two RBIs and Elmore driving in two runs
- Gawrys recorded two runs, a hit and an RBI while DeStefano had a hit and an RBI and sophomore centerfielder Shayla Morgan posted one hit
- Junior Natalie Otto made the start in the circle for the Hounds, and she had one strikeout in a third of an inning. Junior Syndey Andrews moved into the circle for the rest of the contest and recorded five strikeouts in 5.2 innings of action
