Greyhounds Knock Off No. 9 Trine (Ind.), 16-2, at The Spring Games
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. --- The Moravian University softball squad knocked off No. 9 Trine (Ind.) University, 16-2 in six innings, at the PFX Spring Games Thursday morning.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore led off with a triple, and junior third baseman Sydney Andrews drew a walk. Junior right fielder Madison Berning followed with an RBI single to score Elmore while senior shortstop Holly Walter connected on an RBI double to bring Andrews home. Senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys connected on an RBI single that scored Berning while Walter crossed the plate with the final run on an RBI single by junior catcher Marcie Silberman
- The Blue & Grey doubled the advantage to 8-0 with four runs in the top of the fourth frame. Gawrys led off with a double and scored on a two-run homer to right center field by Silberman, her team-leading third home run of the season. Senior left fielder Sage Snyder singled, and sophomore designated player Kyra Holtje drew a walk. After a sacrifice bunt, both Snyder and Holtje scored on error on a ground ball hit by Andrews
- The Thunder got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Hounds' edge to 8-2
- Moravian scored eight times in the top of the sixth to push the lead to 16-2. Andrews led off with a single before Berning doubled and sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan singled to load the bases. Walter reached on an error as Andrews raced home, and Gawrys connected on a sacrifice fly to score Berning. Silberman followed with an RBI single that scored Morgan while Snyder reached on an error that allowed Walter to cross the plate. Holtje ripped a two-RBI double to bring in sophomore pinch runner Emma Grace Pachkowski and Snyder while Andrew hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Holtje. Senior pinch hitter Jessica Forder connected on an RBI single to plate Elmore, who had walked after Holtje's double.
- The last time the Greyhounds and the Thunder met was an elimination game in the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship Finals in Marshall, Texas with Trine winning 12-4 in five innings
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian ripped off 21 hits in the game as every starter had at least one hit with Gawrys going 4-for-4 with two RBIs, a double and a run
- Silberman was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, her 25th career home run and a run while Berning went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI
- Elmore was 2-for-3 with two runs and a triple while Morgan posted a 2-for-4 game with a run
- Walter and Snyder were both 2-for-5 with two runs, and Walter added two RBIs and a double
- Holtje had a hit, two runs, two RBIs and a double while Andrews contributed a hit, two runs and two RBIs
- Forder recorded one hit while Pachkowski scored for the Blue & Grey
- Junior Sarah DeStefano made the start in the circle for the Hounds, and she struck out four batters in the complete game
