Silberman Blasts Three Homers as No. 16 Hounds Sweeps Lycoming to Remain Undefeated in Landmark Conference Action
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 16 Moravian University softball team scored a pair of 9-0 victories over visiting Lycoming College, one in six innings and one in five innings, Saturday at Blue & Grey Field to remain undefeated in Landmark Conference action.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the first game with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior shortstop Holly Walter led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before racing home on an RBI single by junior catcher Marcie Silberman
- The Blue & Grey pushed the lead to 2-0 with a run in the bottom of the third frame as Silberman led off with a solo home run to right centerfield, her team-leading 11th homer of the season and the 33rd of her career
- Moravian doubled the advantage again to 4-0 with two runs in the fourth inning. Senior right fielder Jessica Forder hit a one-out double before sophomore Cassandra Farrell came in to pinch run. Sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan followed with an RBI single to chase Farrell home while Silberman lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to score Morgan
- The Hounds plated a run in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the edge to 5-0. Junior third baseman Sydney Andrews ripped a two-out triple and came across the plate on an RBI single by Forder
- Moravian scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to end the game with the NCAA run rule. Walter was hit by a pitch and senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys connected on a single before Silberman walked to load the bases with Madelin Cooper coming in to pinch run. Graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore hit an RBI sacrifice fly that brought in Walter before senior left fielder Sage Snyder ended the game with a three-run homer to right center, her first home run of the season and the eighth of her career
- Junior Sarah DeStefano scattered three hits and two walks for her eighth shutout of the spring. DeStefano improved to 14-1 on the year as she recorded five strikeouts
How It Happened – Game #2
- The second contest started similar to the first game with the Greyhounds taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Walter drew a leadoff walk before Gawrys doubled to move her to third. Silberman followed with an RBI sacrifice fly as Walter scampered home
- The Blue & Grey made it 3-0 with two runs in the bottom of the second. Andrews and DeStefano each had singles before a bunt single from Morgan loaded the bases. Walter connected on an RBI groundout to bring home Andrews while DeStefano raced home on a wild pitch
- Moravian made it 4-0 with a run in the bottom of the third as Silberman led off with a solo homer to center field
- The Hounds scored five times in the bottom of the fourth to reach the NCAA run rule again. Morgan led off with a single and stole second while Gawrys drew a one-out walk. Silberman connected on a three-run homer off of the scoreboard in right center for her third home run of the day to give her 13 for the season and 35 for her career to tie Jenn Dalickas '15 for second all-time. Elmore had a single and Snyder drew a walk before both raced home on a two-RBI single from DeStefano
- Sophomore Kyra Holtje improved to 8-0 on the year as she allowed just two hits and a walk to go with four strikeouts in her third shutout of the spring
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 23 hits during the twinbill with Silberman going 4-for-4 with three homers, three runs and eight RBIs
- DeStefano was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run while playing right field in game two while Snyder had a 3-for-6 day with two runs, three RBIs and a homer
- Morgan recorded a 3-for-5 afternoon with two runs and an RBI while Walter was 2-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and three stolen bases to give her 50 steals in her career, the second player in program history to 50 stolen bases
- Gawrys added two hits, two runs and a double while Andrews had two hits, two runs and a triple
- Forder was 2-for-3 in the first game with a double and an RBI while Elmore had a hit, a run and an RBI
- Sophomore Gillian Slowinski contributed a pinch in the second game for her first collegiate hit while Farrell and Cooper both scored one run on the day
