No. 18 Moravian Wins in Extra Innings over Wilkes in Opening Game of Landmark Conference Tournament
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The top seed and No. 18 Moravian University softball team topped fourth seed Wilkes University, 5-4 in eight innings, in the opening game of the 2025 Landmark Conference Tournament at Blue & Grey Field Saturday to advance to the best-of-three Championship Round.

How It Happened
- The Colonels opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second inning on a bases loaded walk
- The Greyhounds scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 edge. Sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan singled with one out and stole second with two outs. After a walk by senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys, junior catcher Marcie Silberman ripped an RBI single up the middle to score Morgan and tie the game. Sophomore Cassandra Farrell came in to pinch run and stole second base before graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore connected on a two-RBI single through the left side that scored Gawrys and Farrell. Senior left fielder Sage Snyder followed with an RBI single that chased Elmore home
- Wilkes countered with three runs in the top of the seventh to knot the score at 4-4 and force extra innings
- Moravian scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sophomore designated player Kyra Holtje hit a one-out single. Junior third baseman Sydney Andrews hit a single to move Holtje to third before senior right fielder Jessica Forder ripped an RBI single down the left field line to bring in Holtje with the winning run
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 11 hits in the game with Silberman going 2-for-3 with an RBI
- Forder and Andrews were both 2-for-4 with Forder adding an RBI while Elmore had a hit, a run and an RBI
- Gawrys, Morgan and Holtje each had a hit and scored a run while Snyder contributed a hit and an RBI
- Junior Sarah DeStefano went the distance in the circle for the Hounds with seven strikeouts as she improved to 19-2 on the season
