No. 12 Moravian Sweeps Scranton to Clinch Landmark Conference Tournament as Baltz Records 100th Career Win
SCRANTON, Pa. --- The No. 12 Moravian University softball squad swept host The University of Scranton, 10-0 in six innings and 9-1 in five innings, Saturday to clinch a berth in the 2025 Landmark Conference Tournament and give Head Coach Josh Baltz ’08 his 100th career win in just his third season leading the program.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds took a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the opener. Senior shortstop Holly Walter led off with a walk while junior catcher Marcie Silberman and graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore also drew walks to load the bases. Senior left fielder Sage Snyder was hit by a pitch to push Walter home while junior third baseman Sydney Andrews added an RBI fielder's choice to score Silberman. After a single from freshman designated player Kaley Hoffman loaded the bases again, senior right fielder Jessica Forder was hit by a pitch that brought Elmore home
- The Blue & Grey added a run in the top of the second inning to make it 4-0 as Walter led off with a single and raced home on an RBI double by senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys
- Moravian pushed the advantage to 7-0 with three runs in the top of the third frame. Hoffman reached on an error before Forder connected on a two-run homer to left field, her first home run of the season and second of her career. Sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan singled after the homer, stole second and race home on another RBI double by Gawrys
- The Hounds finished off the game with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Silberman drew a leadoff walk before Elmore connected on a two-run homer to left field, her first homer of the spring and the 11th of her career. Snyder followed with a double and eventually crossed the plate on an RBI sacrifice fly by senior pinch hitter Ren Herschman
- Junior Sarah DeStefano moved to 17-1 in the circle this spring as she allowed just three hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts in five innings of action. Junior Natalie Otto tossed the final inning with a hit, a walk and two strikeouts
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Greyhounds took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game as well. Gawrys connected on a one-out double, and she raced home as Elmore ripped an RBI triple
- Moravian plated four runs in the top of second inning to make it 5-0. Andrews began the inning with a single, and she scored on an RBI single from Forder. Morgan reached on an error as Forder raced home. Walter hit a double before Gawrys ripped a two-RBI single as Morgan and Walter crossed the plate
- The Blue & Grey pushed the advantage to 8-0 with three runs in the third inning. Andrews and DeStefano each had singles with Andrews coming in when Morgan reached on another error. Walter connected on a two-RBI single to change DeStefano and Morgan home
- Scranton scored its only run of the day in the bottom of the third inning
- The Hounds finished off the scoring with a run in the top of the fifth as DeStefano led of the frame with a triple and Forder connected on an RBI single
- Sophomore Kyra Holtje made the start in the circle and improved to 9-1 on the year with two strikeouts in four innings of action. Otto tossed the final inning again and recorded two more strikeouts
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 23 hits in the doubleheader with Gawrys going 5-for-8 with four RBIs, a run and three doubles. Gawrys also recorded 15 putouts on the day to give her a school record 1,101 putouts in her career, passing the mark of 1,091 putouts set by Amanda Dizinno '13
- Forder went 4-for-6 with five RBIs, two runs and a double while Andrews 3-for-7 with two runs and an RBI to give her 102 hits as a collegiate softball player with 38 hits at Cabrini University as a freshman and 63 with the Greyhounds
- Walter recorded three hits, three runs, two RBIs and a double while Elmore added two hits, three RBIs, a homer, a triple and a run
- DeStefano was 2-for-2 with two runs and a triple while playing right field in the second game while Hoffman was 2-for-3 with a run
- Morgan scored three runs to go with a hit while Snyder had a hit, two runs and an RBI
- Silberman crossed the plate twice while Hershman contributed an RBI
- In just two-plus seasons, Baltz has a 100-27 record leading the Greyhounds. He has guided the program to at least 31 wins in each of his three campaigns. The 2025 still has a minimum of six games to play this spring between the regular season and Landmark Conference Tournament
- The Greyhounds are the only team that has qualified for every Landmark Conference Tournament since the conference began in 2007-08
