No. 17 Moravian Takes Two From King’s to Sweep Fifth Straight Doubleheader
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 17 Moravian University softball squad defeated King’s College, 10-2 & 8-0, in non-conference action at Blue & Grey Field Thursday as the Hounds swept their fifth straight twinbill.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as senior shortstop Holly Walter led off with a triple and raced home on a throwing error
- The Monarchs knotted the game with a run in the top of the second inning, and King's took a 2-1 lead with another run in the top of the third inning
- The Blue & Grey countered with seven runs in the bottom of the third frame to take an 8-2 advantage. Senior right fielder Jessica Forder led off with a double before Walter singled and senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys walked to load the bases. Junior catcher Marcie Silberman ripped an RBI single to score Forder while graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore connected on an RBI single to chase Walter home. Senior left fielder Sage Snyder reached on an RBI fielder's choice as Gawrys beat the play at the plate. Sophomore designated player Kyra Holtje hit a ground ball back to the pitcher that saw sophomore pinch runner Madelin Cooper and Elmore score on a throwing error. Junior third baseman Sydney Andrews hit an RBI single score Snyder while Holtje scored the final run of the inning as freshman pinch hitter Kaley Hoffman drew a bases loaded walk
- Moravian added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth frame for a 10-2 edge. Silberman led off the inning with a solo home run to center field, her team-leading eighth homer of the spring and the 30th of her career as Silberman became the third player in program history to 30 career home runs. Elmore reached on an error and scored on an RBI double from Andrews
- Junior Sarah DeStefano recorded seven strikeouts in the circle for the complete game win as she moved to 11-1 on the year
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Blue & Grey scored twice in the bottom of the first in the second game for an early 2-0 lead. Walter hit a triple to lead off as she set the school career record with her 15th career triple. Gawrys drew a walk before Walter raced home on an RBI sacrifice fly. Snyder connected on an RBI double to chase Gawrys home
- Moravian scored a run in the fourth frame for a 3-0 edge as Snyder doubled and scored on an RBI single from DeStefano, who was playing in right field in the second game
- The Hounds doubled the advantage to 6-0 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth frame. Walter started the inning with another triple, tying the school record with her second double of the contest. Gawrys ripped an RBI single to score Walter while Elmore had an RBI single to bring Gawrys home. Andrews hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Cooper
- The Greyhounds finished the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the NCAA eight-run rule. Sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan hit a one-out triple as Moravian tied the program record with three triples in a game. Walter connected on an RBI double and Morgan scored, and Walter crossed the plate with the final run of the day on an RBI infield single from Silberman
- Holtje scattered two hits and two walks while striking out six in the circle for her second shutout of the season
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 19 hits on the day with Walter going 5-for-7 with five runs, an RBI, a double and three triples
- Silberman went 3-for-6 with a homer and three RBIs while Andrews was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double
- Snyder recorded two hits, two runs, two RBIs and two doubles while Forder went 2-for-3 with a run
- Elmore posted two hits, three RBIs and two runs while Gawrys scored three runs to go with a hit and two RBIs
- Morgan had a hit, a triple and a run while DeStefano added a hit and an RBI
