Moravian Drops Season Opening Doubleheader to Alvernia
WAYNE, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team opened its 2025 season with a non-conference doubleheader versus Alvernia University at Archbishop John Carroll High School Saturday with the Golden Wolves winning 4-3 and 7-2 with the nightcap called after five innings due to darkness.

How It Happened – Game #1
- Alvernia opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning
- The Greyhounds countered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore first baseman Wyatt Harrar drew a leadoff walk before moving to third on a double by freshman catcher Ronnie Werkheiser. Senior left fielder Nick Henry drew a walk to load the bases before graduate student center fielder David Olsakowski drew another bases loaded walk to send Harrar across the plate. Freshman shortstop David Voszzo hit an RBI sacrifice fly to bring in Werkheiser
- The Golden Wolves tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth inning, and Alvernia scored twice in the top of the seventh to go back ahead 4-2
- Moravian pulled within a run in the bottom of the seventh frame when Harrar walked with one out, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single to center field by Werkheiser
- The Blue & Grey loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to get the tying run home
- Junior Ross Huffman started on the mound for the Hounds and struck out three batters in five innings of work. Freshman Andrew Sagrestano took the loss in relief as he tossed two innings while senior Chris Medei pitched the final two innings with one strikeout
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Golden Wolves jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first frame in the night cap
- Moravian answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 5-2. Vozzo drew a leadoff walk, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before freshman third baseman Troy Rabosky also walked and stole second. Graduate student designated hitter Cole Cherkas hit an RBI sacrifice fly to bring in Vozzo while Rabosky raced home on a wild pitch
- Alvernia added two more runs in the top of the third inning before the game was called by darkness after five innings
- Freshman Antonio Albanese made the start on the mound in the contest and struck out three batters in three innings while graduate student Aaron Flyte had pitched the final two innings
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had eight hits between the two games
- Harrar was 2-for-6 on the day with a pair of runs scored while Werkheiser was 2-for-4 with a run scored
