Greyhounds Rally to Top Saint Elizabeth in 2025 Home Opener
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team rallied from a 5-0 deficit to earn a 10-8 victory over visiting Saint Elizabeth (N.J.) University in non-conference action at Gillespie Field Wednesday afternoon as the Hounds played their first home game of the season.

How It Happened
- The Eagles opened the scoring with five runs in the top of the fifth inning
- The Greyhounds got one run back in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-1. Graduate student center fielder David Olsakowski drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman Wyatt Harrar
- The Blue & Grey scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to knot the contest at 5-5. Graduate student catcher Connor Wengryn singled with one out and raced home on an RBI double by senior left fielder Nick Henry. Olsakowski ripped an RBI single to plate Henry before freshman shortstop David Vozzo was hit by a pitch. Graduate student Cole Cherkas followed with a two-RBI double to bring in Olsakowski and Vozzo
- Saint Elizabeth retook a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh frame, and the Eagles added a run in the top of the eighth inning for a 7-5 edge
- Moravian plated five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 10-7 advantage. Olsakowski drew a leadoff walk while Vozzo walked and Cherkas was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Harrar added a bases loaded walk to an RBI scoring Olsakowski while Vozzo trotted home with the tying run as freshman pinch hitter Ronnie Werkheiser drew another RBI walk. Sophomore right fielder Matt Westcott put the Hounds ahead when his bases loaded walk pushed Cherkas home while Wengryn was hit by a pitch to score Harrar. Henry drove in the final run with an RBI single as Werkheiser raced home
- Saint Elizabeth would get one run in the top of the ninth before the Greyhounds closed out the contest
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had seven hits in the game with Henry going 2-for-5 with a run, a double and two RBIs
- Cherkas had a hit, a double, a run and two RBIs while Olsakowski contributed a hit, an RBI and three runs
- Wengryn recorded a hit, a run and an RBI while Westcott added a hit and an RBI
- Freshman second baseman Nathan Jones had one hit while Vozzo scored twice
- Harrar registered two RBIs and a run while Werkheiser had a run and an RBI
- Graduate student Aaron Flyte started on the mound and had five strikeouts in five innings of action. Freshman Tyler Bonelli tossed an inning while senior Matt Snyder pitched two innings to improve to 4-0 on the season while sophomore Nick Leonard earned his second save of the year with two strikeouts in the final inning
