Greyhounds Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short versus Elizabethtown
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team nearly rallied from a three run deficit in the ninth inning before falling to visiting Elizabethtown College, 8-7, in Landmark Conference action at a chilly Gillespie Field Wednesday.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Freshman third baseman Troy Rabosky drew a leadoff walk before freshman shortstop David Vozzo hit a double. Freshman catcher Ronnie Werkheiser also walked to load the bases before graduate student second baseman Connor Wengryn connected on a two-RBI single to bring in Rabosky and Vozzo. Werkheiser raced home on an RBI groundout by sophomore right fielder Matt Westcott
- The Blue Jays countered with three runs in the top of the fourth to knot the score at 3-3
- The Hounds answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to retake a 5-3 edge. Sophomore first baseman Wyatt Harrar connected on a one-out single before graduate student designated hitter Cole Cherkas ripped a two-run homer to center field, his third home run of the season and the 11th of his career to take sole possession of eight in the Moravian record book
- Elizabethtown scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game again at 5-5, and the Blue Jays chased in three runs in the top of the eighth to move ahead, 8-5
- The Blue & Grey countered in the ninth and had the tying run at second base when the game ended. Graduate student left fielder David Olsakowski reached on a single with one out before Westcott was hit by a pitch and Harrar walked to load the bases. Cherkas was intentionally walked to score Olsakowski while Rabosky hit an RBI sacrifice fly to bring in Westcott for the final run of the afternoon
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had seven hits in the game with Vozzo going 3-for-5 with a run
- Cherkas was 1-for-4 with a run and three RBIs while Wengryn went 1-for-4 with two RBIs
- Olsakowski posted a 1-for-3 game with a run while Harrar was 1-for-4 with a run
- Rabosky and Westcott both added a run and an RBI while Werkheiser scored once
- Graduate student Aaron Flyte started on the mound and had three strikeouts in six innings of action. Senior Matt Snyder tossed two innings while freshman Tyler Bonelli pitched the ninth frame
